Natural Treatments for Tinea Cruis

Jock itch is an extremely annoying problem for many males that, fortunately can be cured with natural remedies.

Jock itch, also known as tinea cruis, is a fungal infection that causes a red, itchy rash on the thighs, buttocks and genital areas. Occurring more in males than in females, this annoying problem can seem like the end of the world. Often caused by the same fungus that causes ringworm and athlete's foot, this affliction attacks warm, moist areas of the body.

Natural Remedies

For those who have frequent bouts of jock itch, such as athletes, there are many natural jock itch remedies available, most of which can be found right in your own home.

Tea Tree Oil

To treat jock itch with tea tree oil, simply purchase the oil from a local health food store and apply the oil directly to the affected area.

Garlic Treatment

Blend two cloves of garlic with one cup of olive oil. Dip three to four paper towels into the mixture and make a compress. Apply the compress to the area of the rash. Eating raw garlic has also been shown to give good results.

Salt Bath

Soak in a hot bath that has been sprinkled with a generous amount of salt. You should soak for at least 15 minutes to allow the salt water to dry up your blisters.

Cornstarch

Apply cornstarch twice a day to the affected area for up to 2 weeks as a natural cure for jock itch.

Anti Dandruff Shampoos

Wash the affected area daily with an anti-dandruff shampoo. This will help clear up any sores or blisters that have been caused by the jock itch.

Listerine

Menthol and thymol are two of the main ingredients in Listerine. These herbs are a great remedy for jock itch. Apply it twice day to the affected area. It may sting a little at first, but it is worth the effort to get rid of the jock itch.

Prevention

There are many ways to prevent jock itch from occurring. One way is to wear loose fitting, cotton clothing, as tight clothing can make those areas prone to jock itch sweat. If you are prone to getting frequent jock itch, you should lay off the alcohol. The yeast in the alcohol will accelerate the process of getting jock itch. You should always bathe daily, especially if you sweat a lot during the day.

Keep your groin area dry to prevent jock itch. You can even use a powder after showering to make sure the area stays as dry as possible. You should change your underwear at least once a day and make sure that the clothes you are wearing are clean.

If you have athlete's foot, you should treat it immediately because it can cause jock itch to spread to the groin area. Many athletes have jock itch and athlete's foot at the same time, causing pain and discomfort in both areas. With the help of these natural jock itch remedies you'll be a star athlete in no time.

I would also recommend Vicks VapoRub. It contains menthol, camphor, eucalyptol and turpentine/terpenoids. These are all common antimicrobial phytochemicals. They act similarly to Listerine, but don't have the alcohol. I have found them very effective on kids (ringworm) and friends (jock itch, athlete's foot). Vicks is also anti-inflammatory and is a good, quick-acting general purpose topical pain killer (especially good for finger joints). It even stops coughs (apply to the bottom of your feet). It is magical.

Will using Vicks in inside of the thighs and the genital areas burn?

I think cornstarch is bad advice. I put cornstarch (i.e., baby powder) on my groin because I walk a lot and sweat a lot, and that is what caused my current month-long bout of jock itch. My doctor told me to use a non-cornstarch powder, like gold bond, for example. Once I stopped using baby powder it got better right away. Now I just need to kill the fungus. Cornstarch fuels the growth of fungus. I may try tea tree oil. OTC creams like lotrimin are so expensive. Vicks sounds good.

I've had jock itch and athlete's foot since my teens when I played a lot of sports. I'm 41 now and have tried pretty much everything over the counter and quite a few prescription creams. VapoRub did the job where nothing else had. It does burn a bit but it's worth it.

I don't know about Vicks VapoRub, but I'm willing to give it a try. I've tried Tinactin, Lamasil, and Lotramin, all with no success. They seemed to make it worse.

I'll see how the VapoRub works, I've got my finers crossed.

I've been getting jock itch more or less every year whenever it gets overly hot, humid and/or rainy. I usually just air it out (by wearing boxers/nothing at night) and it goes away, but this time around got it pretty nasty.

I'm not a big fan of pharmaceuticals, so did a little bit of research on my favourite remedy for many things to see wether there are applications for it in treating jock itch - hydrogen peroxide. I applied 3% solution with a cotton bud and it burnt like CRAZY, leaving the infected area red, sore and tender. I'm not sure whether the hydrogen peroxide aided or not, but in any event, I had to do something about the discomfort as I had to go to work, and the next simplest thing I could think of was plain petroleum jelly.

After applying a decent amount of petroleum jelly on the affected area the sting went away and when I got home I applied some more before going to bed. By the morning the rash was 90% gone and the itch as well! Amazing! I can't wait until next year to see whether petroleum jelly by itself would be effective (I've read somewhere that this fungus which affects the top layer of skin cannot receive oxygen through oil and thus dies upon the application of petroleum jelly).

+1 on the vicks vaporub. Ive been using this jock itch cream that supposedly
cured the problem, only i went about 30-40 days of using it, in all diffrent variations,
from using it twice a day, to three times, to once, showering twice a day, etc.
All diffrent kinds of variations and it still didnt work. I kept itching like crazy and it
really ruined my day over and over. I saw this page and since i saw the feedback i
decided i dont got much other options so i went and picked up a small thing
of vicks vaporub. It does sting for the first few mins so bare with it on that, but goddamn
does it work. Like i said ive been using the other stuff for around 40 days with no results.
Within about 3 days i started seeing the area clear up. Its now been 5-7 days and
i can almost stop using it because the area is cleared up and is clean. No more
fungus, no more weird smell, no nothing. Gone. I seriously advise you to stop using
those useless creams, and get vicks. I cannot stress about how bad this jock itch
ruined me for so long, it hurt to even walk the skin was so bad. I really am happy that
i came across this page. If you got jock itch, get out the door and get vicks
vaporub. Couldnt be happier, i can go back to normal life again.

Hi Guys, I have jock itch as well and tried many things, much better now but it's still red and sometimes itchy, I came across this page and decided to buy vicks vapor and see how it works, can anyone tell me how many times a day I should apply? after taking a shower in the morning and before sleeping ? Should I wear underwear while sleeping after applying vicks vapor?

I've been reading a lot of articles regarding jock itch cause it really bothers me and my job. I almost tried every anti-fungal cream available over the counter and i rather not go to doctor due to embarrassment. What worked with me is: 1) washing the affected area using a dandruff shampoo
2) putting/rubbing gently some iodized salt while still wet then i'll leave it for a couple of minutes. 3) when itchy, i just put some isop.alcohol 70% and it easily calm down.
4) avoid food that may cause or trigger skin allergy! eat chopped garlic as well.

I am going to let you all in on an OLD MILITARY secret. Clean the area with iodine, wash it back off with warm water. Let that dry.....LET IT DRY...or use a blow dryer to dry it on cool setting of course. but heres the rest of the cure. Next mix 1 part tea tree oil (100% organic) with 1 part lavendar oil (100% organic) to 10 parts baby oil. Or instead of the lavendar oil get baby oil with lavendar in it. Then apply it to the area. It will provide an instant cooling affect that I can only describe as the same sensation you get from eating peppermint, but its on your private area. Theres no stinging or burning (at least I've never hear of it doing that to anyone in the military)...it provides an instant relief to all the aggravation. Now once you start to feel it dried up and start to get itchy (which is about 4-6 hrs) apply again ...do this for two days...each time you shower clean with iodine and start over. The problem will subside in about three days, but continue to use for about a week or longer as its all natural so use your best judgment. Also we were reccommended to take Galic tablets 1000 mg and kelp tablets 1000 mg. The Garlic has antibiotic and antifungual properties and the kelp has iodine in it to clear the fungus from inside out. I never heard of this not working as a soldier cannot stop going!!!

I haven't yet tried Vicks VapoRub. I'm suffering from this month-long jock itch on my inner thighs. I have tried Calamine lotion on the affected area, but it won't improve ! My inner thighs have become black and the skin has become thick :( At night, the itching is unbearable...

Doesn't salt burn your skin ? Why iodized salt is that different from normal table salt ?

I have got isop.alcohol concentrate one ,,,,is I mixed with water would it do the same job as isop.alcohol 70% ?

Thanks
