Jock itch, also known as tinea cruis, is a fungal infection that causes a red, itchy rash on the thighs, buttocks and genital areas. Occurring more in males than in females, this annoying problem can seem like the end of the world. Often caused by the same fungus that causes ringworm and athlete's foot, this affliction attacks warm, moist areas of the body.
Natural Remedies
For those who have frequent bouts of jock itch, such as athletes, there are many natural jock itch remedies available, most of which can be found right in your own home.
Tea Tree Oil
To treat jock itch with tea tree oil, simply purchase the oil from a local health food store and apply the oil directly to the affected area.
Garlic Treatment
Blend two cloves of garlic with one cup of olive oil. Dip three to four paper towels into the mixture and make a compress. Apply the compress to the area of the rash. Eating raw garlic has also been shown to give good results.
Salt Bath
Soak in a hot bath that has been sprinkled with a generous amount of salt. You should soak for at least 15 minutes to allow the salt water to dry up your blisters.
Cornstarch
Apply cornstarch twice a day to the affected area for up to 2 weeks as a natural cure for jock itch.
Anti Dandruff Shampoos
Wash the affected area daily with an anti-dandruff shampoo. This will help clear up any sores or blisters that have been caused by the jock itch.
Listerine
Menthol and thymol are two of the main ingredients in Listerine. These herbs are a great remedy for jock itch. Apply it twice day to the affected area. It may sting a little at first, but it is worth the effort to get rid of the jock itch.
Prevention
There are many ways to prevent jock itch from occurring. One way is to wear loose fitting, cotton clothing, as tight clothing can make those areas prone to jock itch sweat. If you are prone to getting frequent jock itch, you should lay off the alcohol. The yeast in the alcohol will accelerate the process of getting jock itch. You should always bathe daily, especially if you sweat a lot during the day.
Keep your groin area dry to prevent jock itch. You can even use a powder after showering to make sure the area stays as dry as possible. You should change your underwear at least once a day and make sure that the clothes you are wearing are clean.
If you have athlete's foot, you should treat it immediately because it can cause jock itch to spread to the groin area. Many athletes have jock itch and athlete's foot at the same time, causing pain and discomfort in both areas. With the help of these natural jock itch remedies you'll be a star athlete in no time.
